Purple Heron

with one comment

The big changes from the Winter Ice Heron and Royal Blue Heron below are:

  • Hook: Daiichi 2441 Size 2 – Smaller, heavy and black.
  • Hackle: Whiting Spey Variant – two hackles (one is too thin (future post)).

Significant, but more obvious is the change in colour, in that I have shifted to Purple – Body and Wing. So for the body, I am using a lilac floss for the rear, then purple floss with purple seal dubbing in the top half.  To compliment, I am using a black hook with a red head (Danville Flymaster 6/0 Red).

One other lesson, for a teal collar, use a long feather and only the feathers at the tip to avoid that gray front and keep a small head OR tie in at the base and wrap in the tip.
