Wet, cold and dark morning

leave a comment »

It is 9am, and we still need lights on in the house. It is a wet, cold and dark March day.

The early crocus are nearly done and the blue sillia (bluebells) aand have begun to bloom. Maybe the colder temperatures will slow down the spring bloom season.  In a similar activity, the canoe is in the garage and the gunwales are getting their seasonal protective coat of Tung Oil.

Periwinkle, as above is a great ground-garden cover under trees. It can successfully compete with tree roots for water, manage the dense shade of a decidous forest, and you need to add just a few plants to start – minimizing the harm to the tree (roots). Given time, it is a lovely green carpet, with little blue flowers in late spring.
