Scilla – 20130423

leave a comment »

The scilla buds have been out for days, but yesterday (April 23), they finally bloom.  The scilla we have in are garden are those that I collected in wild-spaces around our first home (along the waterfalls in Almonte).  They have been successfully been spreading in this old unkept area and they are now naturalizing (spreading here). There are few true blue flowers and this is one of them, but besides their colour, hardiness, willingness to expand, it is just nice to see another bloom before the trees have “leafed” in.

The flowers are small, low and face down, but they are pretty to look at.

April 24 – It is raining, but as I look into the forest, I see the blood-root has begun to bloom.
