Fly Line Management Hack

with one comment

A couple of hacks to help speed line changes or spooling lines to clean. In effect, I have 3 spools tools:

  1. RIO Cranky – designed for RIO spools that have a square hole registration hole on one side (at the bottom on the picture below).
  2. RIO Cranky modified – to be used with a drill (top right) on RIO spools.
  3. Drill Tool – for spools with circular holes.

.

Key actions:

  • For the drill ends, I took 2 old long driver bits and cut off the head. Created a flat and clean the shaft
  • For the Modified Cranky, I cut off the handle.
  • For the Round Tool, I am using a 5/16″ bolt and insert, with cork and neoprene washers.
  • Used a wood lathe and some scraps to create an adapter to suit each end.

Some break down images.
